There are several Ballot Initiatives for the voters to decide on in 2026. The process started with over 45 proposed initiatives. Some failed to gather the required signatures and were eliminated. As of March 24, 2026, there are 12 active initiatives. They are listed here with a link to the summary or web page.

Massachusetts Firearms Law: Repeal of Chapter 135
A “No” vote repeals Bill 4885, “Chapter 135” new firearms regulations.

Careful: the “no” vote changes the current law (repeals it). A “yes” vote keeps the firearms restrictions in place.
25-03 Initiative Petition for a Law to Allow Single Family Homes on Small Lots in Areas with Adequate Infrastructure
In a nutshell: reduces minimum lot size to 5000 sq ft
25-08 Initiative Petition for a Law Relative to Election Day Registration
In a nutshell: allows election day voter registration
25-10 Initiative Petition for a Law Relative to Regulating Marijuana - Version B
In a nutshell: repeals laws legalizing Marijuana
25-12 Initiative Petition for a Law to Implement All Party State Primaries - Version B
In a nutshell: removes partisan primaries, all candidates run in one primary
25-14 initiative Petition for a Law to Improve Access to Public Records

25-15 Initiative Petition for a Law to Protect Water & Nature - Version A

25-17 initiative Petition for a Law Relative to Limiting State Tax Collection Growth and Returning Surpluses to Taxpayers
In a nutshell: changes (reduces) the amount of revenue the state can collect before returning money to taxpayers
25-18 Initiative Petition for a Law Relative to Reducing the State Personal Income Tax Rate from 5% to 4%
In a nutshell: reduces personal income tax to 4%
25-21 An Initiative Petition to Protect Tenants by Limiting Rent increases
In a nutshell: limits rent increases to 5% or CPI increase, whichever is lower (CPI is typically around 3%)
25-22 Initiative Petition for a Law Relative to Labor Relations Policies for committee for Public Counsel Services Employees
In a nutshell: Allow these employees to collectively bargain (unionize)
25-37 Initiative Petition for an Act to Reform and Regulate Legislative Stipends
In a nutshell: puts rules around legislator’s stipends related to committee appointments, leadership roles, etc.
